"CONCENTRATION"
Pilates for golf seems to be the most perfect conditioning program for golfers because it is more than exercise it is retraining through conscious movement patterns.
Pilates is a neuro-muscular reprogramming which involves retraining our muscles to better posture and alignment while working the deeper core stabilizing muscles.
Sorry for the big words! Basically it means when you exercise your muscles in a certain way your brain is remembering and training them how to perform this way when walking, sitting, or even playing golf!
When controlling your movements by concentration on what and where you are feeling the work you train your subconscious to remember correct movement patterns.
Where else could this be more useful than in your golf game?
If you are thinking through your golf swing every stroke you will never be consistent because your swing is much faster than the brain can comprehend the movement.
With a well-trained subconscious and correct posture and movement patterns your body will just flow through the swing effortlessly.
"ALIGNMENT"
Alignment in golf is about keeping the proper spine angle. Because Pilates for golf trains your muscles and subconscious mind how to align and then strengthen the spine properly then you are working with gravity and not against it.
Instead of having to think about using 20 different muscles to hold you up properly you can stand at address and forget about anything else but effortlessly swinging the club.
"FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT"
In golf you need to condition the body with functional movement, which means it needs a stable center or core while it is rotating and accelerating and decelerating. The golf swing takes place in all three planes of movement.
It starts in a static address posture. You are accelerating, then decelerating...you are coming up and stretching, stabilizing, then reversing and stretching toward the ball...going through the ball, then decelerating and stabilizing.
This level of eccentric strength is where Pilates for golf is preferable to any other exercise regimen.
The Pilates concept is about an ordered series of exercises that work the entire body from top to bottom, stretching and strengthening your muscles and body during every exercise. What could be more beneficial to your golf game than being and feeling long and strong and flexible.
